Abstract: Objective:To systematically analyze traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription pattern of COVID-19 and investigate the patterns of TCM used in the elderly. Methods:To organize the latest TCM prevention and treatment protocols for COVID-19 by the National, Provincial and Municipal Health Commissions and administrations before January 10, 2023 (inclusive), and develop a data extraction table. The ancient and modern medical case cloud platform (V2. 3. 5) was used to analyze the composition of Chinese medicine drugs used in the elderly. Results: Thirty protocols for were included. A total of 79 herbal prescriptions were recommended for the elderly, and no prescription for recovery. The main treatment methods were beneficial to qi and yang, lung and intestine together, and clearing heat and phlegm. The comparison between the prescriptions for prevention and the prescriptions for treatment showed that the drugs mainly included Fangfeng, Huangqi and Atractylodes, which were slightly warm in nature and sweet in taste, and were attributed to the lung and spleen meridians. The drugs prescribed for treatment mainly included Jinyinhua, licorice, rhizome and bitter almond, which were mainly cold in nature and sweet, bitter, and pungent in taste, and were mostly attributed to the lung, stomach, spleen and heart meridians. The correlation analysis between underlying diseases and traditional Chinese medicine suggested common symptoms and drugs. Conclusion:The principle of prevention is to dispel wind, benefit qi and consolidate the surface, and tonify qi and strengthen the spleen, while the treatment is mostly based on promoting the lung and dispersing evil, clearing heat and dispelling dampness. The treatment should be based on clinical symptoms, identify different types of symptoms, and follow the basic principles and ideas of Chinese medicine treating based on pattern differentiation, adapting to the individual, and supporting the righteous and eliminating the evil. Elderly patients with underlying diseases can be treated with additional prescriptions according to the evidence. It is recommended to increase recovery prescription to effectively improve the health of the elderly.
