Impact of Xuesaitong Injection as Adjuvant Therapy on Cerebral Hemodynamics and Levels of Nerve-Related Factors in Patients with AIS-LVO

Abstract

Objective: To explore the efficacy of xuesaitong injection as adjuvant therapy for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO), as well as its impact on cerebral hemodynamics and neurotrophic factor levels. Methods: The clinical data of 100 AIS-LVO patients in our hospital (from November 2023 to October 2024) were retrospectively collected and divided into two groups according to different treatment schemes. 48 patients in the control group were treated with edaravone and dexborneol injection, and 52 patients in the study group were treated with xuesaitong injection on the basis of the control group. The efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups, as well as the levels of cerebral hemodynamics indicators [mean blood flow rate (Vm), peripheral resistance (Rv), mean blood flow (Qm), dynamic resistance (DR)], modified Rankin scale (mRS) score, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, nerve-related factors [glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), S100 calcium-binding protein β(S100β), neurotrophic factor 3 (NT-3), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)], oxidative stress response [malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) ] were compared between the two groups before the treatment and 14 d after the treatment. Results: The total effective rate of the study group was 84.62% (44/52), which was higher than that of the control group [66.67%(32/48)] (P<0.05). After 14 d of treatment, the levels of Vm, Qm, serum NT-3, BDNF and GSH-Px of patients in the study group were higher than those in the control group, and the Rv, DR, mRS, NIHSS scores and serum GFAP, S100β and MDA levels were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: In the treatment of AIS-LVO patients, on the basis of edaravone and dexborneol injection treatment, the combined application of xuesaitong injection can effectively improve the curative effect, regulate the levels of nerve-related factors, improve the levels of cerebral hemodynamics and nerve function, alleviate the oxidative stress reaction of the body, and have high safety.
