Research Progress of Panax Notoginseng Saponins and Alzheimer′s Disease

Abstract

Abstract: Panax notoginseng saponins(PNS)， also called “sanqi” in Chinese， are the main active ingredients which are extracted from the root of Panax notoginseng(Burk.) F. H. Chen. It is widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.The aging of the world′s population has brought about an increase in the number of 30 million AD patients，WHO believes that AD should be considered a global public health priority.Alzheimer′s disease is characterized by neurological dysfunction and neuronal death， and its pathogenesis is not clear. Therefore， it is crucial to find drugs that can prevent the development of AD.The traditional Chinese medicine PNS have a variety of pharmacological activities， such as anti-inflammatory， anti-tumor， anti-neurotoxicity and so on. In recent years， many studies have explored the potential anti-neurotoxicity mechanism of PNS. Therefore， we reviews the therapeutic mechanism and pharmacological activity of PNS in Alzheimer′s disease， in order to provide reference for the clinical treatment of PNS in Alzheimer′s disease in the future.
